Bir Neil Simon oyunundan uyarlanan bu filmde, özgür ruhlu yeni evliler Corie ve huysuz bir avukat olan Paul Bratter, Greenwich Village'da altıncı kattaki bir daireyi paylaşıyorlar. Evlendikten kısa bir süre sonra Corie, artık yalnız olan annesi Ethel'e bir arkadaş bulmaya çalışır ve komşusu Victor ile Ethel'i kurar.
