Öykü, henüz beyaz adamın Yeni Dünya’yı keşfetmediği dönemlerde geçiyor ve yerli bir çocuğun inanılmaz hikayesini anlatıyor. Büyük ruhlar bir çocuğu ders alması için bir başka canlının bedenine sürerler. Abisi, kendi yavrularını korumaya çalışan bir ayı tarafından öldürülen Kenai, kendisini bir ayının bedesinde bulur. İntikam hikayesi Kenai’yi de tehlikeye sokacak ama öte yandan hayatı bir başka canlının gözlerinden yeniden keşfetmesini sağlayacaktır.
