John Harker, gizemli ve kolay kolay ele geçmeyen Kont Drakula'yla bir emlâk anlaşması yapmak için Transilvanya'ya gönderilir. Ama ev sahibi bir vampir, insanların kanıyla beslenen bir hortlaktır ve taşınma fikri ona pek de cazip gelmemektedir. Yüzlerce yıllık cehennemi, hayaletlere özgü bir varoluşun ardından, tek istediği huzura ermektir. Yine de, John'ın genç eşi Mina'nın fotoğrafını görüp heyecanlanınca, gemiyle batıya doğru yolculuğa çıkar.
