Yıl 1791. New Orleans'ta yaşayan Louis karısını kaybetmiş olmanın üzüntüsüyle, yaşama sevincini kaybetmiştir. Lestat adındaki bir vampir, ona gecelerin yaratığı, yani bir vampir olmasını önerir. Louis bu öneriyi kabul eder.Lestat, Louis'in ölümcül kanını akıtarak onu da bir vampire dönüştürür. Ancak Louis, vampirliğe alışamaz. Açlığını gidermek zorundadır ama insanları öldürmek istemez.
