Muriel, Avustralya'nın Porpoise Spit şehrindeki hayatını sıkıcı bulmaktadır ve gününü odasında Abba dinleyerek ve evleneceği günü hayal ederek geçirmektedir. Ancak Muriel daha önce hiç kimseyle beraber olmamıştır. Bir süre sonra biraz para çalıp tropik bir tatile gider, garip biri ile tanışır, adını Mariel olarak değiştirir ve dünyasını alt üst eder.
