Bennett evsiz kadını evinin ön tarafındaki cadde boyunda bir yerde park halinde Bedford marka bir minibüsün içine geçici olarak koyar. Kadın orada 15 yıl kalır. Hikayenin gelişiminde Bennett kadının aslında piyanist Alfred Cortot 'un Margaret Fairchild adındaki (ölüm 1989) eski yetenekli bir öğrencisi olduğunu öğrenir. Zamanında Chopin çalmış ve rahibe olmayı denemiştir.
