Yüzyılın sonunda, maceraperest Profesör Challenger'ın liderliğinde bir grup, sislerle kaplı Londra'dan hala tarihin ayakta durduğunun söylendiği ve dinozorların gezindiği Güney Afrika'nın yağmur ormanlarına gitmek için yola çıkar. Profesör Challenger'a ünlü avcı Lord Roxton, genç gazeteci Edward Malone ve rakibi yine kendisi gibi bir bilim adamı olan Profesör Summerlee eşlik etmektedir.
